Arrests made after high-speed chase on 401

Police officers with the Napanee Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police were on patrol on Highway 401 east bound in Tyendinaga Twsp on the 15th of February at three in the afternoon when a silver sedan approached an OPP cruiser from the rear at a high rate of speed.

The driver passed the officer and its speeds increased to in excess of 200km/h in the posted 100km/h zone. The vehicle was weaving in and out of traffic in an attempt to evade police and then refused to stop. Officers observed the driver appear to be tossing items out of the window while being followed.

Officers were able to get the vehicle stopped east of Napanee and arrested the male driver on scene. The female passengers were arrested and released without charges.

Johnathan Bouffard, a 36 year old male from L’Ange-Lavoie, Quebec has been charged with;

  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Flight from police while being pursued
  • Fail to stop for police
  • Stunt Driving
  • Follow too close
  • Change lane not in safety

The driver was held at Napanee Detachment for the night and will appear in Bail Court at the Ontario Court of Justice in Napanee on this date.
