A 36-year-old local man has been charged after fleeing from the scene of a collision in a vehicle he had taken without permission.
On January 21, 2018 at approximately 6:30 p.m. the male fled after being involved in a three vehicle collision at Sir John A Macdonald Boulevard and Bath Road. The accused was driving a vehicle he had taken without permission from the owner who had given him a temporary place to stay over the holidays.
After the collision the male returned the vehicle to the owner and left. A short time later the accused called police making a report of being involved in a collision while fleeing from an unsubstantiated incident.
The male was arrested and transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.
The accused was charged with taking a motor vehicle without consent and failing to remain at the scene of a collision. The accused was additionally charged under the Highway Traffic Act with driving while under suspension.
