Kingstonians win $100,000 in Mortgage Alliance contest

A Kingston couple, Tim and Katie Carlo, have won $100,000 in Mortgage Alliance Canada’s annual Minimize-Your-Mortgage Sweepstakes. The Grand Prize win was announced on April 30th.

The Carlos, who won after obtaining their home financing through Kingston Mortgage Solutions co-owner Janet MacDonald in 2017, say that they didn’t believe they had won at first and initially hung up when they received the phone call from Mortgage Alliance informing them that they had won the grand prize.

“We didn’t believe it, we thought it was bogus. We don’t get lucky, and we don’t play the lottery, so we hung up! Sorry,” said Tim as he laughed and jokingly apologized to Michael Beckette, President and CEO of Mortgage Alliance Canada.

Tim, a Site Supervisor for Tamarack Homes, and Katie, who works as a hairstylist and also part-time at St. Lawrence College, say they intend to use the money for some home renovations and to pay down their mortgage.

“We really want to thank Janet (MacDonald),” they said at the cheque presentation at Mortgage Alliance Canada’s headquarters in Toronto. “She’s always been a rockstar for us, she and Renae (Gilchrist) are a powerhouse team.”

The winners were drawn from all Mortgage Alliance Canada clients nationwide in 2017, and the prize is drawn at the end of April each year for the previous year.

“The entire Kingston Mortgage Solutions team joins with Mortgage Alliance Canada in congratulating the Carlo family on their win”, said MacDonald, who was on hand for the official announcement and cheque presentation. “I’m so happy for them, and it’s so great to be able to give this prize to someone from Kingston!”
