Male youth arrested after online threats

On Friday May 11, 2018 just before 11:00am officers of the Ontario Provincial Police Prince Edward detachment were notified of an ongoing incident at the Prince Edward Collegiate Institute in Picton.

School officials were made aware of some threatening messages directed towards a student at the school and although the suspect was not on the premises, for safety reasons the school was placed Hold and Secure Mode. A nearby public school, Queen Elizabeth, was placed in Hold and Secure Mode as well.

Initial information revealed the threats were sent by a male suspect who is not a student but is known to the recipient of the threats and this information was relayed to police.

Within a short time, officers using social media and other investigative techniques were able to locate the suspect in the town of Picton.

A 16 year old male from Trenton was arrested and is currently in custody at the Prince Edward detachment of the OPP. The investigation is continuing and OPP say further details regarding charges will be released at a later time.
