A 21-year-old local man was arrested after jumping out of bushes and chasing a female jogger on Friday evening.
On May 25, 2018 at 9:30 p.m. the victim was startled by a male who jumped out of the bushes as she was jogging on a lake shore path near Portsmouth Olympic Harbour. The shirtless male shouted and began calling her names. When the victim turned and fled in the other direction, the male chased after her while grunting. The male stopped chasing her only when the victim came across security officers parked in the area. The security officers called police and followed the male as he started walking away. The male refused to stop for police and the responding officer was required to use force to effect an arrest.
The accused was transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day. The accused was charged with harassment by threatening conduct, and breach probation.
The female victim had left after reporting the incident to security, but was later identified.
