Man violently assaults store security for 2 bottles of liquor

A 26-year-old local man is facing several charges after violently assaulting store security when he was stopped for attempting to steal two bottles of alcohol.

On February 22, 2018 at approximately 5:00 p.m. the accused entered an LCBO store on Princess Street. The accused concealed a bottle of whisky and then a bottle of vodka in his pants before attempting to leave the store without paying. He was stopped at the exit by loss prevention officers and was directed to take the merchandise from his pants. The accused refused to cooperate and during a physical struggle he grabbed one loss prevention officer and smashed his head through a glass wall. A customer then assisted in restraining the suspect and Kingston Police were called.

The accused was arrested and transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

He was charged with theft, assault, and breach probation.

The victim suffered a laceration over his eye.
