St Patrick’s Day festivities in Kingston’s University District turned to a near catastrophe on Saturday afternoon after a garage roof collapsed when several dozen people piled on top of it.
Kingston Police say approximately 40 people climbed on top of the garage roof on University Ave, leading to its collapse. Emergency services responded and searched through the debris. One female was found to have suffered a minor scrape and was assessed on scene by Frontenac Paramedics, who determined that no further medical treatment was necessary.
Kingston Police constable Cam Mack said the incident was a “good example of poor judgement that could have serious consequences.”
City of Kingston bylaw enforcement officers cordoned off area around the garage as a safety precaution. They had to replace the caution tape several times over the course of the afternoon as it was torn down several times by passersby.
