Search for boy missing in St. Lawrence River

On September 1, 2018 at approximately 4:00 p.m. Leeds County Ontario Provincial Police responded to a report of a possible drowning on the St. Lawrence River, west of Rockport. It was reported that five people had been thrown into the water when the boat they were in capsized. Four people were rescued, but an 11-year old boy failed to resurface and could not be found. The boy is from Ottawa and had been vacationing with his family.

The OPP, the Rescue Coordination Centre at CFB Trenton, Canadian Coast Guard and the Leeds and Thousand Islands Fire Department all responded, along with members of the RCMP who had been in the area and members of the public.

The search will resume in the morning, with assistance from the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit.

Alcohol was not a factor in the incident.
