Transport driver charged, 401 near Napanee to be closed Thursday for clean-up

OPP say that on July 25, 2018 at 4:11 am officers with the Napanee Detachment responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 401 westbound just East of Palace Rd in Greater Napanee. A tractor trailer lost control and damaged approximately 500 metres of guard-rail before tipping onto its side in the north ditch.

The male driver, the lone occupant of the vehicle, was taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries.

50-year old James Woolley of St Thomas, ON is charged with Careless Driving under the Highway Traffic Act.

Currently, one lane is closed while repair is being completed on the damaged guard rail. Clean-up and recovery of the transport truck will require both westbound lanes to be closed on Thursday, July 26th starting at 6:00am. The closure is expected to take 6-8 hours and an Emergency Detour Route (EDR) has been set up to deal with the closure.

On July 26 2018 at 6:00 am the EDR will begin. The EDR will be as follows:

  • Exit Hwy 401 at County Rd #4 (exit #593).
  • South on Cty Rd 4 to County Rd 2.
  • West on Cty 2 to Palace Road
  • North on Palace Road to re-enter Hwy 401 west (MM 582).

Construction underway on other roadways in the area of the EDR will create significant delays should motorists opt to deviate from the EDR as listed. The OPP strongly encourages everyone to use the EDR as it will be the most efficient way through the area of the highway closure.
