Two arrested after attempting to deliver drugs to Millhaven Institution

A 42-year-old local man and a 33-year-old local man have been arrested by the Kingston Police after their Street Crime Unit received information from the Ontario Provincial Police Penitentiary Squad and Correctional Service of Canada relating to an attempt to sneak drugs into a local correctional facility.

On March 29, 2018 at approximately 9:15 a.m. the two accused attended the Superior Court of Justice in the City of Kingston. While the 33-year-old stood by, the 42-year-old concealed a quantity of controlled drugs and substances inside the building. Kingston Police say the drugs were left with the intent that a federal inmate attending court could retrieve the drugs and deliver them into Millhaven Institution.

At approximately 9:30 a.m. officers located the drugs in the courthouse and the two accused were arrested while walking on Barrie Street.

During a search of the 42-year-old, officers found glue believed to have been used to secure the drugs inside the courthouse, Canadian currency, and quantities of suspected cannabis oil, marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamine and heroin.

During a search of the 33-year-old, officers found digital scales, drug packaging materials, an expandable baton, a large amount of Canadian currency, and quantities of suspected cannabis resin, cannabis marijuana, crystal methamphetamine, and heroin.

Both accused were transported to Kingston Police headquarters where they were held to attend bail hearings. Both accused were charged jointly with two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking. The 42-year-old was charged with three additional counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, as well as possession of property obtained by crime. The 33-year-old was charged with two additional counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, as well as possession of property obtained by crime, breach of recognizance, and two counts of breach of probation.
