Walmart recalls Parent’s Choice wooden blocks due to barium content

Health Canada is advising of a recall of Parent’s Choice-brand wooden blocks previously sold at Walmart. Testing performed by Walmart Canada Corp. showed that the surface coating material on the print of the storage bag does not meet the Canadian toy safety requirements, as it exceeds allowable limit for barium. As of January 9, 2018, Walmart Canada has received no reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these toys in Canada.

The Parent’s Choice Wooden Blocks, rated for ages 12 months and over, are sold as a set of 26 square blocks with various coloured numbers, pictures and letters printed on the faces of the blocks.  The product can be identified by UPC 62891558225 which can be found on the packaging of the product. The product comes with a storage bag made of white plastic with a purple and yellow Parent’s Choice logo.

Approximately 3,035 units of the affected products were sold in Canada. They were sold from August 2017 to December 2017.

Health Canada says consumers should immediately take the recalled toy away from children and return the product to their nearest Walmart Canada store for a full refund.
