Youth facing multiple charges after attack with bear spray

A 14-year-old local youth has been arrested by Kingston Police after he sprayed another youth in the face with bear spray.

On February 6, 2018 at approximately 6:15 p.m. Kingston Police officers responded to a report of a male lying on the side of the road after being sprayed in the face with bear spray. The victim was in obvious pain and unable to see. The victim was treated on scene by Frontenac Paramedics and subsequently transported to hospital.

An investigation revealed that shortly before he was found, the victim had been walking with a group on a pathway between Davis Dr and Gardiners Road. They were met by the accused and a comment was made that he had been waiting for the victim. The accused then removed bear spray from his pocket and sprayed the victim in the face. The victim ran up the path and the accused chased him for a short distance before fleeing the area.

The accused was located at his residence and arrested. He was transported to police headquarters where he was later released on conditions with a future court date.

The accused has been charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, and possession of a prohibited weapon without a licence.

Eyewitnesses on scene indicated that the victim also asserted at the time that a quantity of marijuana had been taken from him by the suspect. There were no charges laid in relation to that allegation.
